They entered North Dakota in the winter of 1804 and stayed at Fort Mandan (near Washburn). They followed the Missouri river to the Yellowstone (near Williston). The State Historical Society of North Dakota has marked 28 locations of significance to the Corps of Discovery including Lewis & Clark State Park.

East of Dickinson, every few miles southbound from Interstate 94 brings you to metal sculptures, including a robot family, grasshoppers, pheasants and more.
